Online Advising

Your academic advisor is a professional who provides guidance and support throughout your academic journey at Lamar University.

Our LU Online AP Advising Team is your primary source for making informed decisions about your academic and career goals. Our advisors are program-specific experts who assist with degree audits each semester, class selection, and enrollment. They offer invaluable support by guiding students in their college journey to become successful and productive members of society by listening to their hopes and dreams, strengths and weaknesses, and end goals.

NOTE: Not all online students are advised by the AP Advising Team. Review the options below to figure out which program category you fall under.

Accelerated Online Programs

Accelerated Online Programs offer flexibility with entirely online classes in 5-week, 8-week, and 15-week terms. Students enrolled in this category of program can earn a Bachelor's, Master's, or Certificate in a wide variety of disciplines at an expedited pace. These students do not have access to on-campus facilities.

Most Online Graduate Programs and all Online Certificate Programs fall under this category.

Students in these programs receive specialized academic advising to outline program expectations, course requirements, and enrollment.

Traditional Online Programs

Traditional Online Programs offer versatility with classes available both online and on-campus in either 8-week or 15-week terms. Students enrolled in this category of program can complete their degree entirely online or alternate between remote and on-campus study, pending class schedules. Students also have access to on-campus facilities.

Most Online Undergraduate Programs are available as a Traditional Program, along with a small handful of Online Graduate Programs.

Students in Traditional Online Programs receive advising support either from the Undergraduate Advising Center (for Freshman and Sophomores) or directly from department faculty (for Juniors and Seniors).

NOTE: Some progams are offered as both an Accelerated and Traditional Program. When in doubt, ask your advisor or admissions counselor.
